FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Can you work on a fixed-cost basis or provide a quotation for my project?
A. Generally, we can provide a quotation for a well-defined project. However, we prefer to use estimates up front and work on an hourly basis against that estimate. The accuracy of an estimate or quotation is dependent on our understanding of a client’s needs and tends to improve as we work on subsequent projects with them.

Q. What CAD systems and analysis capabilities do you have?
A. Parametric PDG uses SolidWorks and Cosmos FEA with the majority of our clients, although we have worked with ProEngineer and Autodesk Inventor. In one particular case a client has supplied additional software for a particular project. We strive to meet the needs of our clients and will expand our capabilities to address these needs on an ongoing basis.

Q. Do you work with independent inventors?
A. In the past, Rick has worked out arrangements with independent inventors, although in most cases we require a small retainer to get started.

Q. I am an independent inventor with a great idea. What can you do you me?
A. We offer a variety of product development services to take a napkin sketch to a working prototype. See our SERVICES section for detail.

Q. What about intellectual property and nondisclosure (NDA) or confidentiality agreements?
A. Parametric PDG uses a mutual nondisclosure agreement with most of our clients to protect a client’s idea and to preserve his/her right to seek future patent protection. As far as patents go, we can refer you to a reputable patent agent or attorney, if you need one.

Q. Can you work on a handshake or do you use a contract?
A. Parametric PDG strives to ALWAYS uses a contract or statement of work to define a relationship between our engineering associates and our clients. This is good practice especially where design and patent rights and other intellectual property are involved.

Q. What are typical rates for product design services?
A. Rates are determined on a case by case basis and are dependent on the type of work requested. Typically, you can expect analysis or FEA work to be the top tier of the hierarchy. CAD design is somewhat less expensive. Please contact us for an estimate.

Q. Will Parametric PDG work onsite with a client?
A. Since we are not a staffing firm, generally, Parametric PDG associates do not work onsite. We do, however, maintain a close relationship with our client contacts and schedule periodic visits to develop estimates, to provide status updates, to collaborate with staff, and to deliver finished work products. In certain situations, we have worked onsite at the beginning of a new client relationship to learn their systems, formats, internal capabilities, existing products, etc.
